New at Year 8 is recognising literary MOVEMENTS — broad trends in how writers of a particular era approached their work (for example, Romanticism's focus on nature and intense emotion, or Realism's focus on ordinary, unglamorous life). Recognising a movement helps you understand why a text handles character, theme or symbolism in a particular way.
