Use context to inform your reading of a text, identify a writer's viewpoint, and identify whose perspective a text is presented through — and understand how these three things interact.
Context, viewpoint and perspective are related but distinct: CONTEXT is when/where a text was produced and what was happening at the time; VIEWPOINT is the writer's own opinion or stance; PERSPECTIVE is whose eyes the text is presented through. At Year 8, the key skill is seeing how these interact — a writer's context often shapes their viewpoint, and their chosen perspective is often a deliberate tool for expressing that viewpoint persuasively.

CONTEXT (high unemployment) likely shaped the journalist's VIEWPOINT (concern for ordinary people); her choice of PERSPECTIVE (one family's eyes, not statistics) is the deliberate tool she uses to make that viewpoint land emotionally with readers. Seeing all three together, rather than separately, is the Year 8 skill.
