Year 2 β€” Grammar

Sentence types

Write four kinds of sentence: a statement (telling), a question (asking), a command (telling someone to do something), and an exclamation (showing strong feeling).

πŸ’‘Understand

A STATEMENT tells us something and ends with a full stop. A QUESTION asks something and ends with a question mark. A COMMAND tells someone to do something and often starts with a verb. An EXCLAMATION shows strong feeling and ends with an exclamation mark.

β€œClose the door. Is it cold outside? It's freezing! I forgot my coat.”

'Close the door' is a command (telling someone to do something). 'Is it cold outside?' is a question. 'It's freezing!' is an exclamation (strong feeling). 'I forgot my coat' is a statement.
