Year 2 β Writing
Write a full, complete sentence, and expand it by adding more detail to make it more interesting.
A full sentence needs a subject (who or what) and a verb (what they do), and it must make complete sense on its own. We can EXPAND a sentence by adding more detail β when, where, why, or how something happened.
βThe dog barked. β The dog barked loudly at the postman this morning.β
The first sentence is complete but short. The second sentence expands it with more detail: HOW (loudly), AT WHAT (the postman), and WHEN (this morning) β making it much more interesting.
